D.C. Joins International Group Of ‘unrepresented Nations’
The group’s president, Nasser Boladai, says he hopes it can advance the goal of gaining representation for the District.
WASHINGTON – The nation’s capital has joined an international group of territories and separatist organizations whose members say they lack representation on the international stage.
The District of Columbia was deemed eligible for inclusion in the Unrepresented Nations and People’s Organization because its 660,000 residents don’t have representation in Congress. The District’s “Shadow” senator, Paul Strauss, made a presentation to the group at its meeting in Brussels last week.
The organization includes Tibet, Taiwan, Iranian Kurdistan, the Crimean Tatars among other groups that aren’t represented at the United Nations or in other international forums.
The District becomes the only territory from North America in the organization. The group’s president, Nasser Boladai, says he hopes it can advance the goal of gaining representation for the District.
