Ghazi University was founded in the name of Ghazi Khan Meerani Baloch, son of Haji Khan Baloch. The hinterland of DG Khan is predominantly inhabited by Baloch tribes namely Qaisrani, Buzdar, Nutkani, Lund, Leghari, Mazhari, Ghorchani, Ghashgori, Ghormani, Ahmedani, Meerani, Jhakarani, Lashari, Mastoi, Khosa and many others, and has got habitats at important geographic and strategic locations of the areas.

The Punjab Ombudsman has ordered the Ghazi University Dera Ghazi Khan administration to set up a Balochi Department.
For setting up of Balochi Department in the university, the case be put up before its syndicate and to the Academic Council for deliberation and appropriate decision.
Ombudsman Javed Mehmood passed the orders on the report of Member In-charge, Punjab Ombudsman for DG Khan Malik Ahmed Bakhsh following a complaint filed by Dr Ghulam Qasim Mujahid, a resident of Allahabad Colony.
“The pleas and contentions of the complainant with regard to justification of Balochi Department have not been challenged or contradicted in the reports with particular reference to the report presented on behalf of VC of Ghazi University.
The reasons set forth in the complaint along with historical background of area and nature of habitat seemingly carve out justification of founding of Balochi Department in the university as advocated by the complainant are undeniable,” the ombudsman remarked in the decision.
The complainant had pleaded in his application that Ghazi University was founded in the name of Ghazi Khan Meerani Baloch, son of Haji Khan Baloch. The hinterland of DG Khan is predominantly inhabited by Baloch tribes namely Qaisrani, Buzdar, Nutkani, Lund, Leghari, Mazhari, Ghorchani, Ghashgori, Ghormani, Ahmedani, Meerani, Jhakarani, Lashari, Mastoi, Khosa and many others, and has got habitats at important geographic and strategic locations of the areas.
In the past, land of DG Khan was called Royal City of Balochs, he said and added that Balochi language was spoken by a huge number of the populace of Southern Punjab, particularly in the DG Khan Division which is converging point for all four the provinces of Pakistan.
Department of Balochii language may be set up in the university as the Saraiki Department is already functioning in nearby Islamia University Bahawalpur and Bahauddin Zakariya University Multan for many years.
Additional Registrar of Ghazi University Dr Altaf Hussain presented the stance of the university that the case of Balochi Department will be placed before the Syndicate of University for its consideration.
The Ghazi University Dera Ghazi Khan lacks its own building and is being run without the vice chancellor since the day in was inaugurated.
Thus, over 5,000 students are faced with many hardships. The shortages of rooms, drinkable water, use of old style black board, dilapidated building of college, overcharging of fees, non availability of hostels, students union’s unethical activities and poor administration are ills at the university.
