Balochistan Shuts Down Over Anti Election Strike Call
QUETTA: A complete shutter-down and wheel-jam strike was observed in Baloch dominant district of Balochistan on Thursday (9 May 2013) on the call of Baloch National Front (BNF) against the general election
. The Baloch National Front (BNF) is an alliance of Baloch National Movement (BNM) and Baloch Student Organization (Azad) BSO (A) had given a three-day strike call in Balochistan against the general elections. All busy markets, business centres and shopping malls remained closed during the day and a sense of fear ruled in general. The provincial capital also presented a dull look with lesser number of vehicles plying on the roads and most of the shops closed. Tight security measures were seen in the provincial capital with police backed by FC and other law enforcement agencies patrolling the area throughout the day.

The strike was observed in Mastung, Kalat, Surab, Khuzdar, Kharan, Nuski, Panjgur, Hub, Chahgi, Turbat, Mand, Buleda, Tump, Mach, Bolan, Gwadar, Urmara, Pasni, Jiwani and other areas of the province.
Main highways were blocked in different areas of Balochistan and the transporters had already announced not to run transport during the strike. The industrial zone of Balochistan, Hub, also presented a deserted look, as factories remained closed. Moreover, the distribution of newspapers could not be made possible in Quetta and Baloch dominant districts of Balochistan on account of call for strike. staff report
