The death penalty in the Islamic Republic of Iran is a policy of State terror.Juvenile execution, carrying out stoning, rape of virgin girls before execution of, and collective execution in the public view are daily practices. The use of death penalty is meant to terrorize peaceful activists as they pursue their demand for free and democratic elections, freedom of political prisoners, and freedoms of press, speech, assembly and association.
Today, unelected institutions and bodies- such as the Supreme leader, the military, Expediency Council and the Guardian Council- have unlimited political power. This is an obvious violation of the rights of the people of this multicultural and multi-ethnic country to enjoy democracy.
Our panellists will discuss different aspects of death penalty, underlining the importance of the urgent need to abolish it. They will take into account the many ethnic nationalities in Iran and the importance of their participation in public life to ensure equal political opportunities for all and peaceful cohabitation throughout the country.
