Iraqi Kurdish Region President Masoud Barzani Addresses The Institute

Iraq faces a crisis of “one-man rule” under Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki, the leader of the country’s Kurdish Region told an audience of international journalists and policymakers at The Washington Institute. Speaking in his only public remarks while on an official visit to Washington, His Excellency, Masoud Barzani, said that if a solution to the increasing centralization of power in the prime minister’s hands cannot be negotiated, he may ask the Kurdish Region’s parliament to consider a referendum to determine the way forward.
